ABOUT ALICEON

앨리스온은 기술-매체 환경의 변동이 예술과 인간의 관계에 미치는 영향을 비평적으로 추적하는 독립 연구·비평 채널입니다. 앨리스온은 기술이 용매로서 우리의 감각과 인식, 창작과 관계를 녹이고 재구성하는 시대에, 그 변화의 접촉면에서 마찰을 생성함을 목표로 활동하고 있습니다. 2004년 한국 최초의 미디어아트 전문 채널로 출발하여, 20년간 축적한 현장 경험과 담론적 자산을 기반으로, 동시대 기술 조건 아래에서의 창작·비평·교육의 접점을 탐색해왔습니다. 이러한 활동은 세 가지 축으로 구체화하고 있습니다.

비평(Criticism)으로서의 앨리스온은 전시 소개와 뉴스 전달을 넘어, 기술-매체 환경의 변동이 예술적 주체성과 창작 조건, 감각 체계에 미치는 영향을 지속적으로 추적하고 발언합니다. 현상에 이름을 붙이고, 맥락을 짓고, 무엇이 중요하며 무엇이 문제인지를 묻는 비평적 목소리를 유지합니다. 개별 전시와 작품에 대한 리뷰 뿐만 아니라 기술이 예술의 조건 자체를 바꾸고 있는 구조적 변화에 대한 현상 비평과 이론적 탐색을 시도합니다.

아카이브(Archive)로서의 앨리스온은 20년간 축적한 기록을 단순한 데이터베이스가 아닌, 비평적 재맥락화의 자원으로 전환합니다. Re:spect 프로젝트가 그 시도의 주요 걸음이었으며, 앞으로는 아카이브된 전시, 작품, 작가, 사건에 비평적 프레임을 더하여, 한국 미디어 아트의 지형을 입체적으로 읽을 수 있는 담론적 자산을 구축해 나갑니다.

접속(Connection)으로서의 앨리스온은 텍스트에 머무르지 않고, 전시 기획, 세미나, 번역을 통해 담론을 물질화하고 확장합니다. 국내의 동시대 현상을 국제적 맥락과 연결하고, 해외의 이론적 자원을 한국어로 가져오며, 현장의 창작자와 연구자, 관객을 잇는 노드로서 기능합니다.

ALICEON is Korea’s First Media Art & Culture Channel

ALICEON is an independent research and critical platform that traces, with a critical perspective, how shifts in the technological and media environment reshape the relationship between art and human beings. In an era in which technology acts as a solvent—dissolving and reconfiguring our senses, perception, creativity, and relationships—ALICEON operates with the aim of generating productive friction at the points where these transformations come into contact. Founded in 2004 as Korea’s first specialized media art channel, ALICEON has, over the past twenty years, explored the intersections of creation, criticism, and education under contemporary technological conditions, drawing on its accumulated field experience and discursive resources. These activities are articulated through three interrelated axes.

As Criticism, ALICEON moves beyond exhibition introductions and the delivery of news to continuously examine and speak to the ways in which changes in the technological and media environment affect artistic subjectivity, the conditions of creation, and systems of perception. It sustains a critical voice that names phenomena, constructs contexts, and asks what matters and what is at stake. In addition to reviews of individual exhibitions and artworks, ALICEON engages in critical commentary on the structural transformations through which technology is reshaping the very conditions of art, while also pursuing broader theoretical inquiry into these changes.

As an Archive, ALICEON transforms the records it has accumulated over the past twenty years from a mere database into a resource for critical recontextualization. The Re:spect project marked a major step in this effort. Going forward, ALICEON will continue to build discursive assets that enable a multidimensional reading of the terrain of Korean media art by applying critical frameworks to archived exhibitions, artworks, artists, and events.

As Connection, ALICEON does not remain at the level of text alone; it materializes and expands discourse through exhibition-making, seminars, and translation. It connects contemporary developments in Korea to international contexts, brings theoretical resources from abroad into the Korean language, and functions as a node linking practitioners, researchers, and audiences in the field.
